“The drive up and down involves bouncing around in a 4x4 and winding up loose gravel tracks and watching the landscape change as you get higher. The hike is through pine forest and beautiful landscapes, with Mount Tomor looming above impressively. The castle is definitely a ruin, with no standing walls remaining, but the location is very scenic. The lunch is delicious as well, with several Albanian specialties. “Kruje is unique since it is the birthplace of Skanderberg and it is the place where he stayed while fighting with the Ottomans. Overlooking views from the castle and Mount Sarisalltik were fantastic. Visiting the Skanderberg Museum and the national ethnographic museum was informative and educational. “The scenery on the way to the beaches at Vlore and Himare is absolutely stunning. It was a gorgeous, sunny day but a bit too cool for swimming. We really didn't miss it because of our guides, Erdi and Hertel. We have been on many tours in many countries and this one was the most enjoyable of all. In addition to being very knowledgeable of Albanian history, they were a lot of fun to be with.
